Current Topic
Please speak to Val, Helen, Sarah or Amanda if you have any books, puzzles or resources that are topic related. The pre-school appreciates any resources that could be labeled and borrowed.
Snack
Please can all parents remember to bring a piece of fruit every day for snack (avoiding anything containing nuts). On occasion the pre-school has been a bit short on fruit.
Diary System
Each child has their own individual diary which is kept in the trays near the notice board. Please can parents use the diaries to communicate with staff when necessary. This is useful if you have any information you wish to tell the staff that morning. If you write your message in the diary and give it to your child to hand in to the staff when they enter the pre-school. Because first thing in the morning is busy, the diary system avoids any crowding at the door, children struggling to get in, or anyone slipping out unnoticed.
If a different person is picking your child up from pre-school, please write it in the diary and ask your child to hand it in to staff. If different arrangements need to be made during the morning whilst your child is already at preschool, please phone the pre-school contact number (07929 240719) and give staff the full name of the person picking up your child (if that person has not collected you child before could they bring some I.D with them for the staff to check before the child is allowed to go). It is useful to have pre-school emergency number with you or stored in your mobile phone for this purpose.
Forthcoming events
Laura Howell (Katherine’s Mum) is hosting an Usbourne Book Party on Thursday 22nd November at 10am. All proceeds will go to Chestnut Trees so a good opportunity to buy some Chrisdtmas presents as well as raise some money for the pre-school. Look out for full details on the notice bord.
Start Times
Once the door has opened at 9am please ensure the children come in quickly as the staff will be prompt in closing it again in the interest of safety.
Footwear
The staff will be taking the children outside as often as weather allows. Please provide named Wellington boots for outside and daps for wearing in Preschool. These can be kept at Preschool.
Finally, please ensure your contact information is current.

There are two main topics for this term. The first is Autumn. This will be our topic for the first 4 weeks. Then our next topic will be Christmas, this will be the topic for the final 4 weeks of the term. Please see the notice board for any further information regarding term topics.

Lunch
Lunch club is available for 3 year olds who are starting school in September. This is offered as part of the child s personal and social development. It helps them learn to sit with others and eat their own lunch, and is a particularly useful preparation for the slightly longer hours at primary school. Please contact Val or Becky if you would like your child to stay for lunch. Available on a Tuesday, Wednesday and a Thursday at £2.50 per day.

The Chestnut Trees Preschool Committee welcome all returning and new families to the new 2007-08 school year, and also to our full time staff: Val, Helen, Sarah, and Amanda.
We hope you will take a moment to read the notices here that will be helpful reminders to make the start of the preschool year go smoothly for all.
Every term at preschool there is a different topic for the children to explore. Our topic for this term is: Stepping into school.
There is a supplement to this newsletter (on noticeboard) which explains the context of this topic and what the children will be doing. We ask that parents & carers loan books and puzzles relating to the latest topic. These items should be clearly labelled and will be returned at the end of the term. Thank you for supporting this scheme, which greatly increases the variety of books and toys for the childrens’ enjoyment.
The aim of the Chestnut Trees Preschool Volunteer Committee is to provide an environment in which all our children can thrive and learn to love learning. If you have any queries about preschool, or the work of the committee, please do not hesitate to ask a member of staff or a committee member. We warmly welcome any parent or carer interested in volunteering. A committee position is not onerous – we have a sociable meeting approximately once a month. Please talk to Bev if you can spare any time. *Parent Meeting at 9.00am on Thursday 13th September*
The Chestnut Trees Preschool AGM will be held on Wednesday 19th September at 7.30pm in the preschool rooms. This is an important date in our annual calender, and it is imperative that we have a good percentage of parents attend – an invalid AGM could result in the preschool having to close its doors. Please come along and join us for a glass of wine. This will also be an opportunity for completing paperwork for new parents.
Every parent is asked to take a turn on the parent help rota, which may involve one or two mornings a term. Anyone willing to take an extra morning session, please see Bev or add yourself to the list on the board.
We are able to arrange cover should you wish to pay for someone to take your allocated morning: the cost is currently £16.00 rising to £17.50 per session from Term 2 to cover the increase in minimum wage salary.
Funding forms will be going out to parents as soon as we receive them – these need to be completed and returned to Bev (folder marked Chairperson on board) by the dates specified.
Please note *Ofsted require that all preschool lunchboxes contain an ice pack*
Shrivenham Fete Stall
Thank you for all those parents who donated alcoholic bottles our tombola stall at the annual Shrivenham fete, and for those who gave up their time to help run the stall; especially Kelly, Nikki and Rebecca who painted faces so beautifully. We raised approximately £200 for the preschool.

Final Newsletter/summer
*******REMINDER *******
The term ends on Tuesday 24st July, at 1pm, after the Leaver’s Picnic (see below). That evening the committee would welcome all helping hands to tidy away/clean the schools rooms for the summer holiday break, from 7.30pm. We will be also go out for a meal afterwards at the Prince of Wales; all welcome. There is a sign-up sheet on the board.
Our annual Clean-up Day is on Tuesday 4th September from 9.30am. This is an opportunity to make the preschool cupboards gleam. Please come along and help the committee clear away the dust and set up for the coming term.
There is an OPEN DAY on Wednesday 5th September for all current and new children; 9.30-11.30am – accompanied children only please. Regalia and refreshments will be available.
Preschool starts again at 9am on Thursday 6th September.
We are asking parents to donate bottles (alcoholic bottles are particularly tempting on tombolas) for the preschool stall at the Shrivenham Village Fete on August 25th – there is a box in the hallway. The tombola is an excellent source of additional funding for the preschool and monies raised will go towards extending the facilities for the children.
We are also looking for any help on the day, especially if you would like to try being a face painter ... Kelly is our expert and will offer guidance with simple designs on the day. Please do come along and help out for a stint (see Bev); and bring family and friends to enjoy the afternoon!
The Chestnut Tress Preschool AGM will be held on 19th September at 7.30pm in the schoolrooms.
End of Year Picnic
The end of year will be celebrated with a Leaver’s picnic on Tuesday 24th July from 11.30–1.00pm.
All preschool children, parents & carers and siblings are invited to join us under the awning in the play area. There is a sign-up sheet for food donations in the hallway.
Check out the Chestnut Trees Preschool Blog ... going live this week, with weekly updates on forthcoming events, useful links and information about our preschool.
